Is it too much asking to test updates before release?!?!
« on: December 08, 2016, 03:30:55 AM »
Got kicked out of the game 10 minutes ago, reason "new update available, can't play blah blah etc..."

Ok, fine, no problem. Close the client (standalone, PLEASE acknowledge there are people who don't want to use Steam out there)

Launch updater

Everything goes fine, no update.

Start suspecting something's wrong

Launch client

client loads

Message "client out of date"

Repeat above steps two times

feel stupid

now, what?

edit:

Deleted client executable, launched updater once again. This time it went through the full update, but game still can't start. Also, the "new" client executable is identical to the previous one.
Verdict: it looks like it's not some obscure bug or configuration problem, you just forgot to upload the new standalone version of the client to your server.

Ask not what the game can do for you, but what you can do for the game.

Hey Rawonall. It's likely that our standalone client update was still uploading. It should have been ready a short while after you made this post; can you try running the launcher again?

Out of curiosity is there a way to get the steam dlc stuff if you are only using the standalone client?

Yes, it's working now.

So... was the problem caused by somebody fumbling with the update protocol, or does the update protocol really inlcude the "kick people out" step before the "make sure the new files are ready for download" step? Because if it's the latter, the message <A new update is available...> is definitely misleading and should be replaced by <A new update will be available...>

Guess it was indeed too much.

One would say that, statistically, every once in a while things should go right at the first try. One would be naive.

Trying to update client right now:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: .\Downloaded Cards\Static\Promotional\2016\Taiga Apprentice Architect_Alt art.unity3d.compressed (Impossibile trovare il file specificato)
   at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)
   at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
   at model.MD5Checker.generateChecksumForFile(MD5Checker.java:128)
   at model.Updater$UpdateRunner.validateDownload(Updater.java:226)
   at model.Updater$UpdateRunner.doRun(Updater.java:169)
   at controller.NotifyingThread.run(NotifyingThread.java:26)

That's not good... Is anyone else using the standalone client having this issue?

Same issue on standalone. Happens after the bulk of the download is done.
