[CDC] First of Many [Contest Closed]
« on: September 05, 2016, 03:18:22 PM »
This the Card Design Challenge... Design your cards.... and stuff

So here it is:

Make me a card that is viable in the meta but has the card type Unlimited

Gotta have the flavos so try to make it fit the factions... and make it balanced or whatever

Also having it interact with core cards for each faction is always a plus. So yeah there you go that's all I got.

Ill be dropping random prelim judgements to whoever shows up before the end of the week to let you know how strong your card is atm then Ill drop a judgement of the final cards like next week or something.

--- Card Design Challenge Rules ---
1) The Judge appoints a challenge, it can be anything, making new card, redesigning an old one or whatever you wish.
2) All that wish to participate submit their card design. No double posting allowed, you may however edit your post as many times till the deadline.
3) If you edit your post you should make an additional post in this thread informing of the edit to make sure that the updated version of the card will be judged. The post should contain the full updated card details as well as a brief summary of what changed from your original submission.
4) After an announced deadline the Judge decides a winner. The winner then becomes The Judge for the next round.
5) All entries submitted before the deadline are guaranteed feedback, either in this thread or in another detailed feedback thread.

The Loot:
1st place: 1 Faction Pack + 2 Collection Packs
2nd place: 2 Collection Packs
3rd place: 1 Collection Pack

Swarmer Larvae
Unlimited Character - Insectoid
Common
1 Cost
1 morale
0/1

If this character is still alive at the end of the next turn, transform it into a random card with the word "Swarmer" in its name which you do not currently have deployed. If you control 1 insectoid of each faction and Swarmar Larvae cannot transform, instead transform Swarmer Larvae into a Caretaker of the Swarm and create the location "Swarmer Hive" if it is not currently a location you control.

"The thing about infinite realities is, sometimes evolution takes a different course."
- Genesis Entomologist Leyton Pierce, Rift Encyclopedia Vol. I

Swarmer Hive
Unique Location
7 Cost

At the end of each turn, create 1 survival swarmer for each Insectoid in your support zone. While this location is in your support zone you may not play any more Swarmer Larvae.

"AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" - Final transmission from Genesis Entomologist Leyton Pierce.

Synergetic Astable Drone (S.A.D.)
Purity: 1GI
Cost: 1
Morale: 2
Type: Unlimited Character - Artificial
Stats: 3/3
Rarity: Common

When this character enters the deployed area, all S.A.D.s you control gain +3/+3.

At the end of each turn, S.A.D. gains -2/-2 for every S.A.D. you control.

Hmm... the requirement to be "viable in the meta" bothers me because I always find metas gravitate towards the most efficient (and ultimately least interesting) options available. I don't tend to pay attention to the meta, I prefer to go my own way, regardless of whether or not that works. But that's just me.

Name: Fanatical Thrall
Faction/Purity: Verore 2
Type: Unlimited Character - Human
Rarity: Common
Cost: 1
Morale: 0
Attack/Health: 1/1
Rules Text: When you play Fanatical Thrall, draw a card. Fanatical Thrall's stats can never exceed 1/1.
Flavor Text: Driven on by the cruel will of their beautiful but uncaring mistresses, the hapless devotees of the Cult of Verore would kill -or die- for a single smile.

Pure cannon fodder. They replace themselves in your hand as soon as you play them, but are hardly worth running purely for their cycle effect as they're almost useless in combat except as meat shields, or slowly wearing down a defender or undefended fortress in human waves. They provide an abundance of sacrificial material, though, and have no morale cost so you can spend them recklessly. A card you're truly encouraged to run in "unlimited" amounts (not just 5 or 6 instead of the usual limit of 4). Thematically, I was inspired by the chaos cultists from Warhammer 40k, particularly those who follow the fanatical Word Bearers of the Chaos Marines, who die in their millions with smiles on their faces, only with a bit of a kinky (rather than religious) edge.

Indeed. In the past Challenges that require meta viability have been negatively impacted by that requirement (Merlin's and Gin's contests come to mind). I would rather it not come up in the future of the contest, but that may just be me.

I meant mainly that it would be better if it was somehow meta viable  rather than have it be an absolute.

So basically, "Make an Unlimited card (bonus points if meta viable)"?

Jinhai Lancer
2 DOD
Unlimited Character - Human
Cost: 3
Morale: 6
Stats: 3/8

Reach
If Jinhai Lancer has Reach and would attack a fortress, it first deals damage equal to its power to the first character in the opponents support zone, then loses Reach and gets -2/-2.

A warrior with a shield and a 'Lance of Jinhai', so makes use of distance and can throw the lance, it's kinda like vicious ransacker in that hitting the fortress gives you bonus damage, but in this case the bonus damage only applies once and only targets 1 character.

Unlimited + reach is good for defense and probably something DOD would set up in case of falling out with the angels, bypassing the security of the support zone is useful for offense, as you can weaken or kill units before they enter the battlefield, though it'll mean less units in defense and will only happen once per unit (unless you equip them with a new Lance of Jinhai), plus it can be unexpectedly blocked, and if not blocked you lose the reach and some stats.
