Why does Wholesale Slaughter exist

terrible card

Sacrificing own characters should be a cost not a "if you happen to have characters feel free to sacrifice them"

not to mention there is ZERO counters to this card.

It's most likely meant to be that way. Personally, I am fine with impactful cards or cards with little to no counters, but I hate cards with both aspects, such as Calamity.

Slaughter isn't that impactful in my opinion, as it targets 2 characters only and is random. I share your sentiments and I do want it changed to 'kill', but I can deal with it as it is.

Do rather dislike slaughter. If it were to be nerfed then they could probably make it "Sacrifice two random characters you control. Then each other player sacrifices a random character they control for each character you sacrificed this way."

Am I missing something or is this exactly the same as it currently is?

Not really. This makes it such that the loss your opponent gets is equal to your own. If you have no creatures to sacrifice, then it doesn't sac anything from your opponent.

I'm fine with having counterless removal that also punishes you. I'm not okay with it being free though if you discard it, which most definitely fits into the mill/exile play style.

i was thinking you could choose 2 characters to sacrifice as a cost, then opponent sacs 2 random characters. However if any 1 of those characters you chose got killed b4 you got to sacrifice, the ability would flop (sort of like splat).

So you're ok with:

- A card with no downsides as long as you don't control any characters
- That hits command as early as turn 3
- That ignores death protection effects
- Is a completely RNG card
- Has no counters
- Is only 1 purity

As long as it costs at least 3?

not a fan of slaughter it feels to strong with no downside if you ether run alot of units or run no units.
