Novablue and Istarune Present:
Community Wars
Tournament Series

October 4th-5th, 2014

Now that craziness revolving around Gold launch have settled down a bit, we feel it’s about time for a proper post-launch Community Tournament. In what we hope is the first of many, we bring to you a chance to try your skill against your fellow players and earn prizes for your efforts. Our goal is to bring the community together in the spirit of friendly competition, by offering a structured format and rewards for involvement.

Our Goal is to have a focused tournament in a SHORT time frame, not 2-3 weeks. As such, no-shows will mean you forfeit matches, and that not every time-slot can be accommodated.

Creative Concept Award, one player who demonstrates a unique deck concept during their matches many receive a special award. If you notice a player with a unique, fun, or interesting (and functional) deck idea, please mention it to Istarune. This award will be given purely at Judge’s Choice.

Akraim: Zuushen, Support Drone, Aleta Tinkerer - With the build up of GI and the mind-games of Zuushen in command, I found this an intriguing concept. Arkaim made it to round 3 in the winner's bracket, and round 5 in the Loser's bracket with this Command Zone. Awarding him a Platinum Aleta Tinkerer, and a Platinum Aleta Survivor.

Critical: Aerial Commando, Verore Magic Siphoner, Bloodthirsty Dead - Mixing speed with control, I felt this Command Zone had serious potential. Combining rush with control, and combos like Fear+Ferocity/Word of Command could have come up big. Unfortunately Critical didn't make it that far, but that doesn't stop his concept from being a good one. Awarding him a Platinum Aleta Sorceress, and a Platinum Aleta Sufferer

Sithlord13:
Hungry Abomination, Ritual Master, Aleta Searcher - With the ability to feed Exile cards, the support of GI and Aleta's ability to draw cards to help negate some of the Exile hand loss, this was a Command Zone I enjoyed seeing in the tournament. Awarding him a Platinum Aleta Searcher, and a Platinum Aleta Caretaker.

Jaymiechan: Xi Ascended, Kali Ascended, Vasir the Demon Prince. With the ability to swap between OoSx2/Veore, to DoD/FD/Exile and everything in between, this was the most flexible Command Zone in the entire tournament It really focused on the strength of being able to swap purities, and catered to the special rules. Awarding her Evellee Guild Mage Recruiter, and a Platinum Aleta Traveler.

Ye Olde Rules

Please carefully read the Rules for this event, it is your responsibility to be aware of them.
Failure to follow the Rules can result in Disqualification from the event.
Failure to follow the Rules may Disqualify you from entry into future Tournaments.
If you have a question about the rules, please contact an Admin.

Admins for this event:
                Novablue
                Istarune

This is a 32 player, randomly seeded, best-of-three, double elimination tournament. This means if you lose, you will drop to the losers bracket, and have one last chance to fight your way back to victory. It will be played over the course of two days, with the Round of 16, and the Round of 8 played on Saturday October 4th starting at 5pm GMT/IWT and are planned to last 4-5 hours. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals will be played on Sunday October 5th starting at 5:00pm GMT/IWT and are expected to last 6-7 hours. After the finals, there will a decider match to determine 3rd place.  If you cannot attend during both of these times please do not sign up. Failure to show may disqualify you from future tournaments.

These times have been chosen in an attempt to give maximum availability to as many players as possible, while keeping the attendance time-frame requirements limited. Unfortunately to keep the timeline reasonable for this tournament we are unable to easily accommodate players in all regions. Future tournaments will likely have different time slots, attempting to give access to different regions as best we are able.

Deck Policy:
Your deck must consist only of cards from currently released Core sets; so no Order, no Star Trek, and no Omni cards may be in your deck, or be played at any time. Your Commanders are locked for the duration of the Tournament, and you will submit your Commanders to one of the Admins when you check in. This does not lock you to a certain Purity setup, you are only required to keep the same Commanders. The rest of your deck is subject to change between Games, and between Rounds. If you change your commanders during the tournament, or use a non-Core card, you are subject to disqualification.

Why Commander locked, but not deck-locked or Purity locked? Actual deck composition cannot be properly over-viewed at this time, attempting to regulate it would be highly involved, taxing on the players as well as the Admins, and easily gamed by anyone inclined to such behavior. Commanders are fully visible at all times, and will be made a matter of public knowledge at the start of the tournament. Locking Commanders but not Purity actively encourages the potential of Dual-Purity and Hybrid Commanders to give more tactical options.

Quote from: Banned Cards
Interdimensional Phase Bot - Prone to causing Desync issues, and generally not a focal point of decks.
Evolving Parasite - Prone to bugs that effect the outcome of combat damage to fortress. Bugs have a significant impact on game-state beyond a desync, can cause cause victory/loss.

If you accidentally select a deck for a Game which is Invalid for the tournament, including by having incorrect Commanders, before any cards are played you must inform your opponent and remake the game immediately with a legal deck. Failure to do so is grounds for immediate disqualification. If you feel your opponent is in violation of the Deck Policy, please take a screenshot of the suspected violation and contact an Admin.

You will give your list of Commanders to the Admins at Check In, and the list of Commanders will only be made public once Check In is complete. This is being done so that players who Check In early will not be at any disadvantage compared to those who check in later.

Check In:
Check in begins at 4:00pm GMT/IWT October 4th, if you have not checked in by 4:45pm GMT/IWT on October 4th your spot will be given to an Alternate, based on order of sign up. In the event no Alternates are available, the sport will be given to a randomly determined player present who does not yet have a slot. Once you are checked in, and have registered your commanders with the Admins, verify your opponent for the first Round. If you are unable to contact your opponent by the start of the Round, please contact an Admin. If you are 15 minutes late to your Match you forfeit Game 1 of that Match. If you are 30 Minutes late to your Match you forfeit the Match. If will be unable to make your match on time, please inform an Admin.

Check in with one of the Admins on twitch, or via private message in game.

Round 1 will begin at 5:00pm GMT/IWT October 4th
Round 3 will begin at 5:00pm GMT/IWT October 5th

You will have a brief time (2-3 minutes) to use the facilities, swap cards, ect. between Games. Please inform your opponent if you will be longer than that. If your opponent does not return within 10 Minutes please inform an Admin.

Rounds and Reporting:
A Win counts for one point to the winner. A Draw counts as a point to both players. If a players has one Win, and one Draw, the score will be 2-1 and that player will be the winner of the Match. If both players have an equal number of points and a draw occurs, inform an Admin. Unless time dictates otherwise you will play an additional game to determine the winner. If you Win a match, or have a Draw, take a screenshot of the match results screen for your records in-case they need to be referenced later. In case of a Disconnect, or Desync, the players will first attempt to decide if there was a clear winner. If there is no clear winner agreed upon by both players, an additional match will be played instead. If a dispute arises please take a screenshot and contact an Admin.

Reporting:
Once you have completed your best of three, the loser will report to the Admins in stream ( www.twitch.tv/Novablue353) please state your IGN name of you, your opponent, who won and the score. For example, if Charles loses to Vicky, and the score was 2 wins to 1 win, Charles would report in twitch chat “Istarune, Novablue353. Charles vs Vicky: Vicky won 2-1”.

In case a particular Match goes particularly long due to multiple ties or other circumstances, beyond the normal constraints of the tournament, the Admins may invoke Tie-Breaker criteria to resolve the Match. All Screenshots of Drawn Games will be reviewed by the Admins, and a winner determined from the Health and Morale scores.

Additional Information:
Novablue has made his Mumble Server available for use during the tournament to help players coordinate with each other.
IP: 85.236.101.45
Port: 9362

We highly encourage players to stream their matches. If you plan on streaming your match please inform an Admin so we can spread the word for you. We do ask that you place a delay on your stream of at least 2 minutes if you are streaming your match live. If you make a recording of the match, Novablue would also like a copy so that he can have a chance to Shoutcast the match for posterity.

The Admins reserve the right to Disqualify and remove a player from the Tournament for any reason, including, but not limited to: Abuse of Bugs, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Toxic Behavior, and Intentional Delay of Game. Disqualification from this Tournament may affect eligibility for future Tournaments.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Istarune or Novablue.

I request in addition that cards with known gamebreaking potential be banned from the course of the tournament, such as Evolving Parasite, which has a unique capacity to cause desynchs and ruin games.

Might want to ban phase bot as well, as well as figure out a way to handle desync issues, desync from reconnects, possible self imposed disconnects to desync the game, etc.

All desyncs, endless turn ect will be treated like a Disconnect, if anyone is discovered attempting to abuse in game bugs to force de-syncs or endless turns they will be disqualified. As with anything if something seems fishy, screenshot it and report it to an admin. Multiple Disconnects, Desyncs ect. shouldn't happen, and if they do something strange is going on.

The over-whelming rule of "don't be a butt" should handle 98% of situations...if one person decides to be a jerk and try to game the system it won't go well for them.

As of right now, no cards are banned. If that changes we will certainly post it well in advance (likely a week ahead of time).

Well I still suggest banning phase bot, mostly due to its extremely high rate of forcing desync issues. Not that many people play it, but its still one of the few major sources of desyncs in the game. Parasite is probably the second. Zombie abomination also has a high chance because it usually brings a crapton of cards back into the game.

It's a 100% valid thing to bring up, and we'll definitely talk it over given that a small handful of cards cause the vast majority of the issues. Banning cards is really, REALLY tricky...because it can drastically effect decks and factions. Like you said, Phase Bot is limited in play, but until we talk it over I can't say we'll act one way or the other. I try very hard not to give promises on anything I can't 100% fulfill.
