Nightmare of Somna

On the world called Somna, humanity survived the calamity - barely. The survivors were wandering through the ruins of their cities, struggling to survive from day to day. Rebuilding was seemingly impossible, and desperation consumed the communities of survivors.

The Aleta of this world could not accept the dire state and grief of the people, so she came up with a solution: She used her magic to weaken the barriers between this world and the Dream World, allowing persons of sufficient willpower to shape the reality with their imagination alone. And for a time, this seemed to be the perfect solution! Society progressed peacefully and rebuilt itself at astonishing speed.

However, unknown to Aleta, dark desires, subconscious fears and missuse of the magic she invented accumulated to a dark presence in the Dreamworld, called the Nightmare. The Nightmare started to take over the dreamworld, trapping Dreamers there and searching for ways to break into reality - with increasing success. Soon, only small groups of resistance are left in a world taken over by Nightmares when suddenly strange rifts open, arousing interest of both the Nightmare and the resistance.

Themes:
This faction is able to field strong characters for relatively cheap cost, but they usually have severe drawbacks. It is also pretty good in controlling the opponents characters, but lacks hard removal or straight direct damage. A lot of the abilities are seemingly relatively impactful, but require to combo with the new keyword 'asleep'.

New Keywords:

Asleep: Characters with asleep can neither block nor attack nor use active abilities. Taking damage from any source removes this keyword.

Illusion: Characters with illusion are sacrificed when taking damage or being targeted by any ability.

Ethereal: Characters with etheral take only half combat damage but double damage from all other sources.

The Empyreans

Significance in Lore: It was thought that there had always been a civilization far greater than man existing at the beginning of time. However, it was theorized that a disaster in a similar scale to the Calamity had occurred during these times, burying all evidence of their existence in the sands of time. Now, as the very conflict of the rebellion shook the grounds along with more of the spatial rifts growing unstable and opening, strange relics and ruins started to surface across the parallel worlds.
As curious individuals of Reisch, Talich and Solace would later attempt to study these, they inadvertently unleashed the beings that could only be known as the Empyreans.
Disturbed from their afterlife, they have assumed a certain degree of corporeality and are driven by their instincts to destroy every last ounce of life as retribution for their extinction.

Playstyle: The Empyreans revolve on bringing out extremely high-cost Characters to win a game. However, they are also heavily reliant on their Unique Location and Artifact effects to do this. Most of their early-game Characters are weak but they employ a variety of Ability cards to assist in survival.

Trademark keywords:
Regenerate - At the end of each turn that this card engages in combat, this card heals to its maximum health.
Overwhelm - While deployed, this card is unaffected by effects from other cards with a lower resource cost than this card.
Tenacious - The first time this card dies, it survives at 1 health and creates a copy of itself in the Support Zone with half of its stats and no effects.
Charisma – The first time you would deploy this card from your hand, you may choose to place it in the Command Zone after resolving its on-deploy effects.
