Community Events & Contests / [CDC] Gods Among Us [CLOSED!]
« on: October 23, 2017, 11:28:26 AM »
Greetings, fellow card designers.

This contests challenge:

Design a card with high cost (or difficult requirements) and high impact.

With high cost i mean cards with 10+ cost. Every card type is allowed. Cost reduction systems are allowed.

You are allowed to make a card with less than 10 cost if it requires some crazy setup to make up for it (like ultra unit). But should you choose to go this more difficult route, please remember that these are hard to balance (and to judge). As an example, i would say that the Ultra-Unit card is still too weak for what it requires you to do. You are usually better off just using the 3 Mega Units if you manage to deploy them all.

Examples for these cards would be: Titan of the Old World, Virus of Avarrach, Calamity, Omnitron and many others.

--- Card Design Challenge Rules ---
1) The Judge appoints a challenge, it can be anything, making new card, redesigning an old one or whatever you wish.
2) All that wish to participate submit their card design. Each participant may only submit one entry per challenge, you may however edit your post as many times as you wish till the deadline.
3) If you edit your post you should make an additional post in this thread informing of the edit to make sure that the updated version of the card will be judged. The post should contain the full updated card details as well as a brief summary of what changed from your original submission.
4) After an announced deadline the Judge decides a winner. The winner then becomes the Judge for the next round.
5) All entries submitted before the deadline are guaranteed feedback, either in this thread or in another detailed feedback thread.

Community Events & Contests / [CDC] For Free! [Contest Closed!]
« on: September 12, 2017, 02:45:38 PM »
Greetings, fellow card design contest veterans (and newcomers, should any show up).

This contests challenge:

Design a card that you can play for free!

The card can have 0 cost from the start or can have a condition which must be fulfilled to be free. Cards with a cost reduction system like oblivion, although eventually free, do NOT count for this challenge. It's either full price or for free, nothing in between.

Existing examples from the game would be Echo of the Battlefield or the graveyard mechanic of Last Sleeper or the Aletas. (I think there is no straight forward 0 cost card yet, but those count too).

Community Events & Contests / [CDC] Tricks of the Trade [Closed!]
« on: July 11, 2017, 01:46:30 PM »
Greetings, fellow card designers.

The main unique feature of IW are the simultaneous turns, no questions. However, there is another fairly unique feature that often gets overlooked: The Trading Post. Many close victories have been achieved by drawing just the right card with this mechanic (although most of the time you probably get annoyed by drawing the card you just shuffled back time and time again), yet there is not a single card in the game to interact with this mechanic. So, here is the challenge:

Create a card that interacts with the Trading Post.

No restrictions on purity, card types or cost. Every kind of interaction with the Trading Post (yours, your opponents or both) counts. It must be an interaction with the Trading Post specifically though, interaction with (unspecified) card draw or max. resource increase alone is not enough.

Community Events & Contests / [CDC] In Quest for Interaction [CLOSED]
« on: June 12, 2017, 02:05:49 PM »
Greetings, fellow card designers.
We all know missions. The newest card archetype in the game, yet except from their conditions to progress them, they are basicly inert. As soon as they have been played, they will either get finished or remain unfinished until the end of game. Time to change that!

For this challenge, I want you to create a card that interacts with the 'Mission' card type.

There are no limitations in purity, cost or cardtype you can use (although, should you desire to make a mission that influences missions, please note that it must influence missions OTHER than itself). Also, there are no limitations of how the mission is influenced, it is all up to you. Go wild and enjoy :).

Card Design Challenge - Small Gifts - Closed!

Greetings, fellow Card designers.

Design a card that gives your opponent control of an existing card or creates a new card for your opponent.

There are no limitations as to which kind of card it is or to which zone the newly created (or given) card must go - graveyard, deck, hand, in play...everything goes! The effect can also be conditional if you prefer that.

Examples that already exist in game would be:
Infiltration
Genesis Spy
Hunted Dragon
Two-Face
Ixxi
Defiant Trickster

Card Design Challenge - Forgotten Powers - Contest Closed

Greetings, fellow card designers.
You all know keywords. Abilities that occur so often that they get a standard word to save text on the cards. A prime example would be flying or charge which have a ton of cards connected to them. However, there are some keywords that don't occur often at all. Time to change that:

Design a card that revolves around an underused keyword!

To make things easier for you, I have made a list of keywords that are currently used for 5 or less cards:
Flamestrike/Immolated
Poison/Poisoned
Opening
Bloodthirst
Plunder X
Unblockable

There are no restrictions on purity or card type. Every entry must revolve around one of these keywords. It is perfectly fine if the card itself doesn't have the keyword, but gives it to other cards (like kyrallic) or interacts with cards that have the chosen keyword (like drag down). Conditional keywords (like reach in killaroo) are also welcome.

I will judge the card to the best of my abilities for:
-Balance (is the card underwhelming/OP or opens up op combos?)

-Creativity (is the card adding something intruiging that we didn't see yet?)

-Flavor (does it fit to the faction it is placed in? I appreciate if cards tie into the current lore, but it is by no means required)

The Exiles / How it feels to play exile cards...or play against them.
« on: November 25, 2016, 07:31:16 PM »
An absolutly, 100% correct represantation of how exile cards behave when you play them compared to when your opponent plays them  ::).

Hell's Gambler:
You: Activate to give Hell's gambler -4/-4. Activate a second time to kill him. For the unlikely instance that you get +4/+4, never touch the ability again!

Opponent: Activate to give Hell's gambler +4/+4 and watch your opponent rage about your 2 cost 14/14 at turn 3.

Ritual Master:
You: Activate to discard the non-exile card which would be most useful next turn to give your characters +1/+1.

Opponent: Activate to discard a card with exile costs lower or equal to your max. resources next turn to give your characters +1/+1.

Spontaneous Combustion:
You: Split 12 damage between all your opponents deployed characters in the most unhelpful way. Make sure the main threats survive, even if they had the lowest health of all possible targets. Special rule: Drawing this has a 60% chance to generate a Noble Protector, Cassial or Martyr golem in your opponents hand.

Opponent:  Split 12 damage between all your opponents deployed characters in the most helpful way. Kills all important characters if possible, even when they had most health of all his deployed characters.

Reckless Abandon
You: Pay one to randomly select Reckless Abandon itself (yes, the very same copy you just played) to discard another random card next turn.

Opponent: Pay one to randomly select Reckless Abandon itself (yes, the very same copy you just played) to discard another random card next turn.

Wholesale Slaughter
You: Sacrifice your two most important characters to force the opponent to sacrifice his least important characters.

Opponent: Sacrifice your two least important characters to force the opponent to sacrifice his two most important characters. Especially targets characters that could otherwise kill you this turn and which you can't deal with in other ways.

Scramble:
You: This does absolutly nothing to help you. A waste of resources.

Opponent: This does absolutly nothing to help you 95% of the time. Occasionally in rare events rearranges your opponents attackers in a way that all his characters wipe on your single defender. Still not worth including.

Two-Face:
You: When you draw this or when Two-face is your commander, shuffle all copies of Descent into Madness and similar cards to the bottom of your deck. Generate undodgeable removal in your opponents hand.

Opponent: When you draw this or when Two-face is your commander, shuffle all copies of your opponents removal and similar cards to the bottom of your opponents deck. Generate a Descent into Madness in your hand.

Ixxi, the Annoying
You: If Ixxi dies, he is shuffled to the bottom of your opponent's deck at the end of the turn and his cost is increased by 3.

Opponent: If Ixxi dies, he is shuffled to the top of your opponent's deck at the end of the turn and his cost is increased by 3.

Card Design Challenge - Glory or Death

Greetings, fellow card designers.
The next card designing Challenge is ready for you to work your magic, so without further ado, here is the challenge:

Design a card that opens up a new way for your opponent to win.

I am not sure if this explains well enough what I want from you, so I'll add a few examples from old CDCs (there is no card like that in game yet).

First example: Grinning Gin's winning cards 2nd from the last challenge. It opens up the possibility for your opponent to win by killing off the character.

Name: The Nameless
Faction/Purity: Factionless
Type: Unique Creature - Unknown
Rarity: Legendary
Cost: 10
Morale: 0
Attack/Health: 30/30
Rules Text: Untouchable. The Nameless cannot be killed by non-damage sources. When The Nameless enters play, both players gain 25 morale and 25 life, both players shuffle their graveyards into their decks, and both players draw two cards. If The Nameless dies, you lose the game.

2nd example: 2nd place in CDC from a while ago.
Opens up the possibility for your opponent to kill off his own characters to push Azir over the treshhold and win the game that way.

Azir, Lord of Misfortune
Purity: 1CoV
Cost: 1
Morale: 10
Type: Unique Character - Demon
Stats: 1/1
Rarity: Epic

Untouchable
Everytime a player causes one of their own characters to die by one of their own abilities, put a might counter on Azir.
Azir gets +3/+3 for every counter placed on him.
If you control Azir at the end of the turn and he has 13 or more counters, you lose the game.

There are no restrictions on purity or card type.

I will judge the card to the best of my abilities for:
-Balance (is the card underwhelming/OP or opens up op combos?)

-Flavor (does it fit to the faction it is placed in? I appreciate if cards tie into the current lore, but it is by no means required)

-Creativity (is the card adding something intruiging that we didn't see yet?)

Hey there! Welcome to another episode of Intended or Not?

This time I would like to ask for your opinion about a fairly popular combo with Two-Face: The use of Two-Face and Descent into Madness. When you use Two-Face with Descent into Madness and he dies that turn, then your opponent gets a standard 10/10 version of Two-Face. It still gets removed at the end of the turn.

Two-Face is losing every other effect of the Descent into Madness card (the buff and the flying) when he dies, so why does the 'gets removed at the end of the turn' part remain? Furthermore, other lingering card effects like poison, flying, immolated and so on will not remain on Two-Face after he switched sides (however, the effect of Demonic Corruption will remain for some reason).

So for the sake of consistency , should Two-Face either retain all his buffs/debuffs when he switches sides or lose all of them?

Fan-Art & Fan-Fiction / [Parody] Aberion's Song
« on: August 13, 2016, 03:34:58 PM »
After reading Benionin's Phony Overseer song (pretty funny, you can find it here: http://forum.lightmare.com.au/index.php?topic=66393.0 ) I had an idea for modified song of my own. Was first planning to request the song from Benionin, but then I decided that it is better not to borther him and get active myself. Hope the result is as enjoyable as his parodies.

*Aberion sits depressed on his seat of honor in a FD tavern. Soldiers all around are drinking, but the mood is slightly depressed*

Aberion (angry and depressed):
Who does Orion think he is?
That engineer tangled with the wrong man!

Bromich:
Damn right!

Aberion:
No one resists Aberion!
Dismissed. Repelled at their walls!
Publicly humiliated! Why, it's more than i can bear.

Sacculas (tipsy):
More Beer?

Aberion:
What for? Nothing helps. I'm disgraced.

Bromich:
Who, you? Never! Aberion, you've got to pull yourself togheter!!

*starts singing*
Gosh it disturbs me to see you, Aberion
Looking so down in the dumps
Ev'ry guy here'd love to be you, Aberion
Even when taking your lumps
There's no man in Talich as admired as you
You're ev'ryone's favorite guy
Ev'ryone's awed and inspired by you
And it's not very hard to see why
No one's slick as Aberion
No one's quick as Aberion
No one breaks necks as easily as Aberion
For there's no man in Talich half as manly
Perfect, a pure paragon!
You can ask any Nix, Klore or Sacculas
And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on

Bromich and Soldiers:
No one's been like Aberion
A king like Aberion

Sacculas (drunk):
No one's got a swell cleft in his chin like Aberion

Aberion (posing):
As a specimen, yes, I'm intimidating!

Bromich and Soldiers (cheerful):
My what a guy, that Aberion!
Give five "hurrahs!"
Give twelve "hip-hips!"

Bromich:
Aberion is the best
And the rest is all drips

Soldiers:
No one fights like Aberion
Commands knights like Aberion

Bromich:
In a battle nobody delights like Aberion

Purifiers:
For there's no one as burly and brawny

Aberion (lifts his heavy stone throne with one arm):
As you can see I've got biceps to spare

Kali (impressed):
No bit of him is scraggly or scrawny

Aberion:
That's right!

Sacculas (drunk):
And ev'ry last inch of him is covered in hair!

Soldiers:
No one hits like Aberion
Matches wits like Aberion

Bromich:
In a slugfest nobody can take as many hits as Aberion

Aberion:
I am especially indestructible!

When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs
Ev'ry morning to help me get large
And now that I'm grown I eat five dozen eggs
So I'm roughly the size of a barge

Soldiers:
Oh, ahhh, wow!
My what a guy, that Aberion!
No one hits like Aberion
Wields a hammer like Aberion

Bromich:
Then goes tromping around wearing boots like Aberion

Aberion:
I use flames in all of my decorating!

Soldiers:
My what a guy,
Aberion!

*Aberion and the soldiers leave the tavern cheerfully to go raiding, leaving a drunken Sacculas at the bar behind*

The song used as a template here was Gaston from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Hello fellow Card designers, and welcome to the next challenge.

There has always been something that intrigued me in many card games:

The possibility to use your own health as an additional resource. I always liked this kind of risky cards. Currently, there are only two cards that really do that in IW (if I didn't forget any), the very basic Anger of Veroria (deals damage to you and your opponent) and the Ruins of Veroria (which takes that idea a little too far, costing half of your health).

For this challenge, I want you to create a card that damages your own health in order to get you some kind of advantage in return.

Every kind of card is possible (location, ability, ect.). You can bring the health cost into play wherever you want. Part of the cost to play the card, part of an activatable ability, some kind of upkeep per turn....let your imagination go wild!

EDIT: Forgot to mention the prizes.

Special thanks to RikkiTikki for providing the prizes for this challenge.

1st: 1 Faction Pack + 2 Collection Packs
2nd:2 Collection Packs
3rd: 1 Collection Pack

Like always, the winner will also have the great honor to be host of the next challenge!
