Yes. You must discard a minimum of 2 cards or you can't play him. You may discard more than that though if you want to.

EDIT: Slightly changed the wording on Yorn to reflect that the discarding is an additional cost on deployment.

Yorn, Herald of Chaos and Decay
Purity: 1Exiles/1SoA
Cost: 8
Morale: 14
Type: Unique Character - Undead Demon Dragon
Stats: 12/12
Rarity: Legendary

Flying, Consume 2, Infect

As an additional cost when you deploy Yorn, you must discard at least 2 cards (you may discard more though).
For every card discarded this way, Yorn gains +3/+3 permanently (this persists through death and removal from play).

When Yorn is in the graveyard, you may discard your entire hand to return Yorn from the graveyard to your hand. You cannot use this if your hand is empty.

Sightings of the two-headed dragon Yorn are regarded as omens of horrible disaster in Reish.

A demonic dragon changed by the infection or an infected dragon corrupted further by the demons? Nobody but Yorn himself knows the answer.

First, it was a minor complaint from my side. If I would have thought that your card is absolutly unacceptable for the purity you placed it at, I would not have ranked it where i did.

I agree that not every faction needs to only have cards for their primary playstyle, in fact for many factions I wish there was more than one viable style. However, I think that alternative playstyles/cards should not come from other factions primary playstyles, but need to be something with own identity (that might very well synergize with another faction to be splashed in). After all, the factions being distinctly different from each other is what makes this purity system really interesting imho.

If you have another opinion, then that is perfectly fine, but I would actually prefer that the factions core competences would 'bleed' much less into other factions than some of them already did - just take removal spells. I liked it much more when the only good cheap and easy to use hard removal was Verore only and you had to really pay up for neutral cards like assassinate if you wanted hard removal in 3p Wp for example.

I also agree that not every card that is aggressive needs to be FD, but this card is more than just aggressive, comes with 2 typical FD abilities and a new one that seems to be tailormade for FD.  Sure, FD/DoD could use a card like that, but then again, every deck that doesnt aim for a morale victory could. Anyways, long story short, i still think it is a good card and i really like it. Just thought for a double purity card it looked like not a lot of DoD influence went into it.

Suggestions / Re: Future card ideas

SoA could have been the kings of unlimited characters - faceless, disposable masses of undead that shamble along during the zombie apocalypse. And they kind of had the right unlimited character to pull that off, but it ended to be lackluster - mostly because there was not much synergy and support from the rest of the SoA roster. So, these are a few ideas how you could have made cards centered around the Unending Horde, my favorite unlimited character (that i never quite got to work in a deck).

Blighted Lands
Purity: 2SoA
Cost: 4
Type: Location
Rarity: Rare

Whenever a character dies, they are transformed into a 4/4 Unending Horde and placed into your graveyard.

Fracturing Recreation
Purity: 1SoA
Cost: 2
Type: Ability
Rarity: Common

As an additional cost, sacrifice a deployed character. For every 4 attack this character has, create 1 Unending Horde in your graveyard.

Horde Assimilator
Purity: 2SoA
Cost: 4
Morale: 6
Type: Character - Undead
Rarity: Common
Stats: 12/6

Characters killed by Horde Assimilator are transformed into 4/4 Unending Horde characters and placed in your graveyard.

All-embracing Infection
Purity: 3SoA
Cost: 10
Type: Ability
Rarity: Rare

All cards in all graveyards are transformed into 4/4 Unending Hordes and then placed in your graveyard.

Horde Leader
Purity: 1SoA
Cost: 3
Morale: 5
Type: Character - Undead
Rarity: Uncommon
Stats: 2/2

Horde Leader gets +2/+2 for every unending Horde in the same zone as him.

"Undead leaders don't lead by charisma. It's more like the small stone that starts an avalanche. When one begins to run the rest follows into the same general direction - most of the time at least." - FD Scout

Unending March
Purity: 2SoA
Cost: 3
Type: Ability
Rarity: Uncommon

Raise target undead character with cost 3 or lower from your graveyard to your support zone. If the targeted character is an Unending Horde, you may raise a 2nd Unending Horde from your graveyard after the first one.

Greetings, fellow card designers.

This contests challenge:

Design a card with high cost (or difficult requirements) and high impact.

With high cost i mean cards with 10+ cost. Every card type is allowed. Cost reduction systems are allowed.

You are allowed to make a card with less than 10 cost if it requires some crazy setup to make up for it (like ultra unit). But should you choose to go this more difficult route, please remember that these are hard to balance (and to judge). As an example, i would say that the Ultra-Unit card is still too weak for what it requires you to do. You are usually better off just using the 3 Mega Units if you manage to deploy them all.

Examples for these cards would be: Titan of the Old World, Virus of Avarrach, Calamity, Omnitron and many others.

Perpetuum Mobile - Prototype
Purity: 1GI
Type: Unlimited Character - Artificial
Cost: 1
Morale: 2
Stats: 8/8
Rarity: Uncommon

Whenever Perpetuum Mobile ends its turn on the battlefield, it is moved to the support zone and permanently exhausted.

Sure, you can do that. Would be a good way for morale burn decks to counter passive opponents. :)

Hiding is right. The idea is to make the opponents location spawn the 0/1s (under his control) and when they die, you get the zombies. You can however use it on your own location if you want to for tactical shenanigans, but i guess mostly that will not turn out to be very useful.

Infestation
Purity: 1SoA
Cost: 3
Type: Ability
Rarity: Uncommon

Target location gains 'At the start of every turn, create one 0/1 Infested Citizen each in the Assault Zone and the Defense Zone of the controller of this Location'.

No place touched by the Virus will ever be the same again as before.

Infested Citizen
Purity: Factionless
Cost: 0
Morale: 1
Type: Character - Human

Cannot leave the battlefield.

When Infested Citizen dies, it transform to a 6/4 Undead Risen of Avarrach and is raised to the support zone of your opponent.

"I feel strange."

EDIT: Made it a bit cheaper since it doesn't impair the locations function and needs a bit work to get the pay-off.

You really can't sac her with her own ability? Sorry, did not know that. I was pretty sure that i did it before, but i haven't touched that card for a pretty long time now and there has been a fair number of updates that might changed it. I am also suprised since you can sac other characters (like acolythe of the altar) with their own ability too last time that i checked and her text doesn't state that you have to sac another character than herself. I have to admit that i did not double check though, I only looked at her text which basicly doesn't restrict her from doing it.

Greetings, fellow card design contest veterans (and newcomers, should any show up).

This contests challenge:

Design a card that you can play for free!

The card can have 0 cost from the start or can have a condition which must be fulfilled to be free. Cards with a cost reduction system like oblivion, although eventually free, do NOT count for this challenge. It's either full price or for free, nothing in between.

Existing examples from the game would be Echo of the Battlefield or the graveyard mechanic of Last Sleeper or the Aletas. (I think there is no straight forward 0 cost card yet, but those count too).
